How to read these two numbers
The root number
Direction. It is the thing a person is built to do well and the register they are strongest in, and it is the constructive half of the chart: the capacity you are working with rather than the one you are working against.
It is the apex of the pyramid above, and it is the same value Western numerology calls your life path number. That one number is where Western numerology stops. This method keeps folding.
The day master
The shadow of that direction. It is the disposition that surfaces under pressure, the habit that costs you, the part of the pattern that tends to undo the root number’s work.
It is the digit your day of birth reduces to, and Western numerology does not produce it at all. Read the two together: the root number says what you are for, the day master says how you get in your own way.

Questions
How do you calculate a life path number?
Add every digit of your date of birth together, then keep adding the digits of the result until one digit remains. This calculator folds the date through a pyramid instead of summing it flat, which produces the same final number, plus the day master and the twelve two-digit codes the fold leaves behind.
Is this Chinese numerology or Western numerology?
Both, in the sense that the arithmetic overlaps. The pyramid method is Chinese in origin and produces twelve two-digit codes plus a nine-palace occurrence grid (九宫). That is not the Lo Shu grid: the Lo Shu grid counts the digits of the date itself, while this one counts the twelve values the fold produces, so the two disagree for the same date. Its apex number is mathematically identical to the Western life path number. We got this distinction wrong in an earlier draft and corrected it in public — see how we verify this arithmetic.
What is a day master?
The day master is the digit your day of birth reduces to. Someone born on the 29th has a day master of 2, because 2 plus 9 is 11, and 1 plus 1 is 2. It is one of two headline numbers in this method, alongside the root number.
Does this calculator store my name and date of birth?
Yes. The chart is worked out in your browser, but your name and date of birth are sent and stored when you press Calculate, along with the numbers they produce.
